Media: Azerbaijani spy was found in Armenian Ministry of Defense

The arrested man had personal access to information about military equipment, weapons, military facilities of the Armenian and Nagorno-Karabakh armies.

The Armenian National Security Service exposed a high-ranking official of the country’s Defense Ministry who was passing secret information to Azerbaijan. This was reported by Sputnik Armenia on Thursday, October 1.

The arrested man had personal access to information about military equipment, weapons, military facilities of the Armenian and Nagorno-Karabakh armies.

Besides, using ties with high-ranking military officials of Armenia and Nagorno-Karabakh, the accused regularly met with them, being interested in specific actions of the units and other important information.

He was recruited by the Azerbaijani special services during one of his trips to Georgia. Later, he repeatedly traveled to the place where he met with his curators and handed over the collected data.

The special services searched the military’s place of residence and found spy equipment, as well as original documents revealing relevant military information. The official has now been arrested and charged with treason.

Earlier, the Armenian Defense Ministry, with reference to the Deputy Defense Minister of unrecognized Nagorno-Karabakh Artur Sargsyan, reported 16 Armenian soldiers killed during the fighting in Nagorno-Karabakh. Over 100 Armenian servicemen were wounded.
