Mexico received the first batch of the Russian COVID-19 Sputnik V vaccine, 200,000 doses of which were delivered to the country on Monday.

Mexican Foreign Minister Marcelo Ebrard Casaubon thanked Russian President Vladimir Putin after accepting the shipment at Mexico City International Airport.

Russian Ambassador to Mexico Victor Coronelli was present and praised the partnership between the two countries.

Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador reached an agreement with the Russian leader several weeks ago to purchase 24 million doses of Sputnik vaccine to immunize 12 million people.
