Acting Prime Minister Chokoy reported rising incidence in recent weeks
The Parliament of Moldova voted to impose a 60-day state of emergency to combat the coronavirus pandemic.
As of March 30, the country had more than 228,000 coronavirus cases and 4,915 deaths.
Acting Prime Minister Aureliy Chokoy said the number of people infected has reached 635 per 100,000 in the past two weeks.
Chokoy said the state of emergency is needed to contain the virus, reduce the burden on hospitals, and give the government additional powers to implement the opposition’s lockdown regime.
