Muslim faces jail for refusing to send son to LGBT lessons

A Muslim man who refused to send his 9-year-old son to a school teaching so-called gender equality classes faces jail.

Jabar Hussain, 51, faces a fine and a prison sentence for not attending Parkfield Community School in Birmingham for several months. According to the man, the lessons on the LGBT community contradict his religion. Hussain instructed lawyers to go to court to review the case if Birmingham City Council did not back down.

The curriculum at Anderton Park, Parkfield Community School and other of Birmingham’s most prestigious schools has sparked a months-long stand-off between teachers and predominantly Muslim parents. Parents from Muslim families believe it is unacceptable for a school to teach their children things like LGBT rights or same-sex relationships. Hundreds of protesters have been gathering outside schools, most of them Muslim, since February 2019.
