Jens Stoltenberg sees no reason not to believe the video about the possible defeat of the Ukrainian plane by an Iranian missile.
NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg said there was no reason to doubt that Iran shot down a Ukrainian missile in Tehran. He said this during a press conference on Friday, January 10, AFP reports.
“I will not go into details about our intelligence, but I can say that we have no reason not to believe the reports that are voiced in different capitals of NATO countries,” Stoltenberg said.
He said that Iran should conduct a transparent investigation into the causes of the crash of the Ukrainian plane.
“It is important that we establish all the facts there… I call on Iran to participate fully and contribute to a transparent and thorough investigation… We need a thorough investigation to establish all the facts, and that is why we must cooperate fully with the Iranian side,” he said.
The day before, U.S. President Donald Trump ruled out technical problems of the UIA aircraft. A technical fault is not the cause of a plane crash in Iran, the US president has said. He was supported by some other world leaders.
According to Newsweek, Iranian anti-aircraft missile systems (SLBMs) mistakenly shot down a Ukrainian aircraft. He was allegedly hit by a Tor-M1 surface-to-air missile system, U.S. and Iraqi intelligence officials said.
