New York sends National Guard to Washington

Governor Cuomo says they will “facilitate a peaceful transition of presidential power”
Following the violence on Capitol Hill in Washington, New York Governor Andrew Cuomo has sent 1,000 members of the New York National Guard to the U.S. capital.
They will be in Washington for up to two weeks “to assist and facilitate a peaceful transition of presidential power,” Cuomo said.
He added that “New York stands ready to assist in making sure that the will of the American people is carried out – in a safe and decisive manner.”
