In the impeachment trial of former U.S. President Donald Trump, which ended in his acquittal, the real winner was the current head of state Joe Biden. This opinion was expressed by Jacob Heilbrunn, a columnist for the American magazine The National Interest.
He thinks that Biden won, as a protracted procedure could have prevented him from advancing his agenda. Now that the process is over, however, Biden will be able to focus on passing the pandemic relief bill, as it is critical to the Democrats’ “political well-being.”
“If House leaders started calling witnesses, the impeachment process could easily turn into a months-long debacle that would create insurmountable obstacles to moving Biden’s agenda forward,” the expert explained.
Earlier, it became known that the U.S. Senate acquitted former President Donald Trump in the impeachment case. In a vote in favor of impeachment, 53 senators voted, against – 47. At the same time, the conviction required the support of two-thirds of the Senate. The Council of Federation commented on Trump’s impeachment acquittal.
