Pentagon chief candidate Lloyd Austin said he supports providing weapons to Ukraine, but not to a greater extent than before.
“I support providing weapons assistance to ensure that Ukraine has the weapons it needs to defend itself. Ukraine also has critical non-weapons requests, such as secure communications equipment, which is funded through the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative (USAI),” Austin said in testimony to the Senate.
Asked if more weapons assistance to Ukraine was needed, Austin said, “There’s a good balance of lethal and non-lethal assistance right now that fits Ukraine’s needs.” At the same time, he promised to “make the necessary changes” in the future, if necessary.
