According to the polling company Ipsos and Reuters, 80% of Americans strongly condemn the actions of the people who stormed the Capitol
More than 50% of Americans polled believe that the current U.S. President Donald Trump should leave office immediately because of the riots in Washington. This is evidenced by the results of a survey published on Friday, conducted by the polling company Ipsos and Reuters.
Fifty-seven percent of respondents said Trump should not stay in office: 30% believe the White House head should be removed using the 25th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, 14% favor impeachment, and another 13% believe the American leader should resign himself.
According to the poll, 80% of Americans sharply condemn the actions of the people who stormed the Capitol on Wednesday. Only 12% of those polled supported the rioters.
More than 1 thousand U.S. citizens, 18 years and older, took part in the poll. Of these, 490 support the Democratic Party, 363 support the Republican Party, and 100 are not supporters of either party.
The current U.S. leader’s term expires on Jan. 20. On Wednesday, his supporters stormed the U.S. Congress building to prevent the results of the November 3, 2020, presidential election in the country, which was won by Democrat Joseph Biden. Congressional Democrats accused the current head of the U.S. administration of sedition and demanded his removal from power. Some representatives of the Republican Party of the USA spoke in a similar vein.
On Friday, several media reported that a group of lawmakers from the Democratic Party intends to submit articles of impeachment against Trump to the U.S. House of Representatives on January 11, accusing him of “sedition”.
