He expressed hope for the end of the war in Donbas this year
President of Ukraine Vladimir Selensky hopes for the end of the war in Donbas as early as 2020
“The second meeting in the “Normandy format” shows that we have a great chance to end the war,” he said in an interview with Euronews, according to the press service of the head of state.
“If you compare our team and the past – the way I want, no one wanted. No one has done such a pace and so pressure on this issue, and everyone sees it. And I’m not just talking about Ukrainians – all our foreign partners see it. I know that no one will finish it faster than me,” said Mr. Selensky. The head of state stressed that there is no other effective plan for a peaceful settlement of the situation in the Donbas, which would be supported by all four sides of the “Normandy” negotiating format, so he wants to continue on this path until the end of the armed conflict.
“If it (the negotiating format – IF) does not work, then we will think about another plan,” the President of Ukraine said.
He noted that the agreements reached by the leaders of the “Normandy format” states at the last meeting in Paris at the end of 2019 are being implemented, although not as quickly as we would like.
The President reminded that the Donbas has already introduced and observed a regime of silence, agreements have been reached on the breeding sites and 20 demining sites.
