Prime Minister of Slovakia resigns

Prime Minister of Slovakia Igor Matovic has resigned, according to Reuters.

Matovic’s resignation came amid the political crisis in Slovakia over the supply of the Russian Sputnik V coronavirus vaccine. Matovic’s resignation was a voluntary decision related to the demand to fire Minister of Economy Richard Sulik, Head of the Health Committee Yana Bitto-Tsiganikova, Minister of Justice Maria Kolikova, and Deputy Chairman of the Slovak Parliament Juraj Sheliga.

Slovak President Zuzana Čaputova instructed Eduard Heger to form a new cabinet. All four major political parties in Slovakia have expressed their desire to take part in the formation of the new cabinet.

Earlier, Igor Matovich expressed his readiness to exchange positions with Eduard Kheder.

He came up with such an initiative during a meeting of the leadership of the ruling party “Ordinary People and Independent Individuals”, to which Prime Minister Matovic and President Chaputova belong.
