Riots erupt in Sweden after Koran burning

Protesters set fire to fireworks and firecrackers, threw stones at the police and set fire to car tires with garbage.
Riots erupted in the Swedish city of Malmo after a rally to burn the Muslim holy book of the Koran. Among the injured are police officers, detained about 20 people. This was announced on Saturday, August 29, SVT reported.

It is noted that the riots began on Friday evening. Protesters set fire to fireworks and firecrackers, threw stones at the police and set fire to car tires with garbage.

Closer tonight, the situation escalated. The security forces tried to quell the unrest. This was done around 4:00 am on Saturday.

Several police cars and at least one rescue vehicle were damaged in the clashes. Several vehicles were also burned in the areas where the clashes took place, and police have not yet confirmed whether the incidents are related to the riots.

About 20 people were detained.

Swedish street artist Dan Pak had previously planned to hold an anti-Islam rally in the city, where he planned to burn a Koran wrapped in bacon. The authorities banned the action for security reasons. As a result, it was still organized by members of the Danish right-wing extremist party Hard Course. They filmed the burning of the Koran on a video that circulated on social media, which led to riots.

Earlier it was reported that riots began in Kenosha after police shot Jacob Blake, an African-American man, several times in the back on August 23. The rioters knocked down the doors of the local courthouse, set several cars on fire, and damaged the lighting system of the city streets. Wisconsin National Guard units were sent to the city to disperse the crowd, and police fired tear gas.
