Russia accused of trying to steal data on coronavirus from Britain

The British government said that the country’s institutions fighting the new coronavirus faced cyber attacks. According to the Daily Mail tabloid, the authorities link these attacks to Russia and Iran.

An unnamed source in the government said the hackers are targeting British universities involved in the development of vaccines and test kits, as well as scientists and doctors who study the virus.
According to the interlocutors of the Daily Mail, hackers tried to access email and servers of universities and research institutions.
“It seems they are trying to steal information about our response to the coronavirus,” one source said.
At the same time, the Daily Mail claims that none of the cyber attacks was successful.
Last week, director of the US National Center for Counterintelligence and Security, Bill Evanina, said US research organizations working on vaccines for the new coronavirus could face cyber attacks.
“We expect that foreign intelligence services, including the Chinese Communist Party, will try to get what we do here,” he said
