Russia accuses U.S. of openly aiding terrorists

The Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs commented on the next anti-Russian sanctions by the United States, which were imposed for the supply of aviation fuel to Syria by the Russian military.

“Since the Russian Armed Forces have been assisting Syrian government forces in the fight against terrorist groups since 2015, it turns out that the United States has openly sided with terrorists,” the Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

The ministry noted that sanctions are nothing new for Russia. Diplomats stressed that the country will continue to fight terrorists in Syria despite the opposition from the United States. “We strongly condemn the cynical and unscrupulous nature of Washington’s policy,” the Foreign Ministry concluded.

The next expansion of sanctions by the United States became known on September 26. Three Russian citizens who work for Sovfracht, five ships, and logistics firm Maritime Assistance were subject to restrictions. All of them participated in the supply of aviation fuel for the Russian contingent in Syria, thus supporting the regime of the country’s President Bashar al-Assad.
