U.S. President Donald Trump and Secretary of State Mike Pompeo are not involved in the non-issuance of U.S. visas to members of the Russian delegation to the United Nations. This was stated by Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, Interfax reports.
According to Lavrov, this information was confirmed to him personally by the Us Secretary of State. He also stressed that he has no doubts about the non-involvement of Trump and Pompeo in the situation with visas of Russian delegates. “We will double-check ten times how officials who issue visas have instructions from the State Department leadership,” he said, adding that Russia would not leave the incident unanswered.
On September 25, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov proposed moving all international events from the U.S. territory to more sustainable sites. He also linked this to the refusal to issue visas to the Russian delegation.
On September 24, Russian Senator Konstantin Kosachev said that he and nine other members of the Russian delegation were unable to issue visas to the United States in time. Moscow considered Washington’s actions an outrageous example of disrespect for UN members.
