Russian Ambassador to the United States Anatoly Antonov called the American bill “stillborn”, which proposes to ban US President Donald Trump from withdrawing from international treaties without the approval of Congress. He stated this in an interview with the TV channel “Star”.
According to the diplomat, the bill will not be adopted, because this requires party support, which is absent in the US Congress. In addition, Antonov recalled Trump’s right to veto the bill.
In order to circumvent the presidential veto, support is needed for 66 out of 100 senators, the ambassador said. He added that such a development of the situation is impossible due to a split in the Senate.
It was previously reported that a bill proposing to ban Trump from withdrawing from international treaties without the approval of lawmakers was submitted to the US Congress. This happened after the head of the state decided to withdraw the American side from the Open Skies Treaty.
