A Russian MiG-29 fighter was escorted by a British reconnaissance aircraft over the Barents Sea, the Russian National Defense Control Center said.
The incident took place on Monday. The air defense forces of the Northern Fleet discovered a target over the neutral waters of the Barents Sea, which was approaching the Russian border.
To identify it, a fighter was raised into the air.
“The crew of the Russian fighter identified the target as a strategic reconnaissance aircraft R.1 Sentinel of the British Air Force and escorted it over the Barents Sea.
The flight of the MiG-29 took place in strict accordance with international rules for the use of airspace. The British reconnaissance aircraft was not allowed to violate the Russian state border.
In addition, another object was noticed over the neutral waters of the Barents Sea. This time a MiG-31 fighter took off to intercept.
The crew of the Russian aircraft identified the target as a Norion Air Force P-3C Orion patrol aircraft.
When it turned away from the Russian borders, the MiG-31 returned safely to the airfield.
