The very idea of making smartphones storage of personal documents has been in the air for a relatively long time. And you might think that there is nothing complicated in it – you have uploaded a photo of your passport and show it if necessary. In fact, everything is much more complicated. Security questions immediately arise. This method can be dangerous for the owner of the passport if the gadget is lost or stolen. In addition, there is no guarantee that the user will be guaranteed to present their passport.
Samsung has taken the lead in this area with a unique solution for seamless identification and authentication. It can be implemented in the flagship smartphone Samsung Galaxy S20 this year as part of a pilot project of the Korean brand with the authorities and interested companies in Germany. Samsung smartphones are recognized as fully compliant with global safety standards and have received the best software and hardware components.
It is reported that by the end of 2020, with one of the updates, Galaxy S20 users in Germany will be able to receive and save digital IDs in their devices. After confirmation of the request by the relevant authority, the eID electronic card will be downloaded to the device and stored in isolated and secure storage. The system will use end-to-end encryption to ensure security. Only an authorized device and the organization that generated and issued the identifier can get access to the identity document.
The eSE vault is a digital safe on the user’s device. It guarantees the safety of the confidentiality of uploaded documents even in the event of theft, loss, and physical access to the device by unauthorized persons. The technology implemented in the Galaxy S20 will allow in the future to build reliable and secure solutions in the EU countries, allowing citizens to be identified only using electronic methods.
