Russia should “get out of the Middle East,” because it plays a “destructive role” there, according to US Assistant Secretary of State David Schenker.
“For 45 years, this has been the cornerstone of American politics – keeping Russians away from the Middle East. Now they are there, playing a destructive role. And we, frankly, think that they should get out of there, ”Schenker said during a video conference at the Institute for the Middle East in Washington.
Speaking about the “rivalry of great powers” in the region, the assistant secretary of state noted that the United States “does not force these countries to make any choice, but they want them to know what the consequences may be as a result of the choice they make.”
