Scratch the Turk, you will find a Slav (and many who else)

As you know, the ethnogenesis of the Turks is quite diverse. Simply put, what of the people not blinded lady the Story of this interesting ethnic group.

Direct ancestors of the Turks — Seljuks. It is such a large tribal formation that wandered through Central Asia until the 10th-century ad. (However, it is believed that their homeland is the steppes of the Aral sea region).

Seljuk is the Oghuz Turks who in the 10th century decided to change the place of residence, and have organized their settled state of the seljukids in the territory of present Turkmenistan and the Ghaznavids in current Afghanistan. And then, becoming stronger, they moved to Asia Minor.

Gradually conquered Iran, Armenia, part of the Middle East. Became more and more settled and settled. Mixed with the Greeks, who inhabited half of today’s Turkey, with the Armenians and the Kurds. Later — with Assyrians, Georgians. At the same time, the Seljuks turkized the local conquered population, taking only the best from them: agriculture, crafts, etc. But not forgetting their language and the fact that they are Turks. After the local Empire began to grow, thanks to Sultan Osman, these people took another name — the Ottomans.

The Ottoman Empire is one of the most powerful States of its time. It conquered almost the entire Middle East, Egypt, Libya, Algeria, Tunisia. In the North — the Caucasus and the Crimean Khanate. In the West — Greece, Albania, Bulgaria, Macedonia, Montenegro, Serbia, part of Hungary and Romania, reaching Podolia and Galicia. A huge Empire! Which easily and naturally milled all the conquered peoples.

Paying them to Islam and Turkish boys!

When the Ottoman Empire came to the seas, it turned out that the descendants of the steppe nomads nor beliefs do not understand the Maritime business. But they were not taken aback! Began to invite Europeans — Genoese, Venetians, Dutch, British, etc. Gave them a large salary, beautiful wives in exchange for the adoption of Islam and service to the new homeland. They agreed to build ships, to manage them, to teach the Ottomans Maritime Affairs. It is also known that the bulk of the elite Janissary troops were Slavs, as well as Greeks and Caucasians. They were taken as little boys, converted to Islam, taught the language, made the Ottomans. The thing is that the future Turks did not care what blood flows in your veins.

The main thing is that you speak the Turkic language, be a Sunni Muslim and be loyal to the Motherland.
When Russia captured the Caucasus, many local Turkic peoples began to move to the future Turkey. They are Kumyks, Karachays, Balkars, Nogais. They were joined by Chechens, Adygs, Abkhazians, Circassians, etc. All of them joined the future Turkish ethnos.

A little later, migrants from China appeared: Kyrgyz, Kazakhs, Uighurs — that is, Muslim peoples who also speak Turkic languages.

In the early 20th century, when the Empire ordered to live long, and the monarchy collapsed, came to power new forces led by Mustafa Kemal. He is known under the nickname Ataturk — that is, the father of the Turks. Thanks to him, the people changed the name from the Ottomans to the Turks. And there was a new Imperial idea of unification of all Turks under the power of the new country — Turkey.

(It’s as if the Russians were renamed Slavs, and the country was called Slavs).
Therefore, in the Russian language the word “Turks” means nationality, and the word “Turks” – belonging to the people who speak the Turkic dialect (for example, the Turks are Kazakhs, Tatars, Uzbeks, Yakuts, Azerbaijanis, etc.). In many other languages, there is no difference. Tricky, isn’t it!

Currently, Turkey continues to pursue a policy of naming all citizens Turks. No matter what ethnic origin. And only the Kurds, in view of their large number, manage to designate themselves as a separate nation.
