U.S. Senators James Risch and Jeanne Sheikhin sent a letter to President Joe Biden calling for sanctions against the Nord Stream 2 pipeline. This was reported by Bloomberg.
“We have concerns about media reports that the German government has put forward a proposal that would require the U.S. to disregard sanctions justified by law,” the document reads.
The senators stressed the importance of the relationship with Germany, but they said allowing Nord Stream 2 to end was not constructive for the partnership.
Earlier, the media learned that the construction of the “Nord Stream – 2” will soon be resumed.
The implementation of the project “Nord Stream – 2” was suspended due to the sanctions imposed by the United States in December 2019 against the contractors of the pipeline. President Vladimir Putin said in January 2020 that Nord Stream 2 will be completed by Russian forces, but construction will be completed several months later than planned.
