British singer Talia Debrett Barnett, better known as FKA twigs, has revealed details of emotional abuse at the hands of actor Shia LaBeouf, with whom she was in a relationship for less than a year in 2019. The artist said that her former lover forbade her to look men in the eye, reports BBC News.
The performer recounted that LaBeouf might have been angry if she was polite to the waiter – he saw it as Barnett’s attempt to “get into some kind of relationship.” “He told me I knew him, and if I loved him, I wouldn’t look other men in the eye. That was my reality for four whole months before the relationship ended,” the artist admitted. According to her, it caused her to start looking under her feet as they walked down the street and to avoid socializing with friends and family.I lived a very regimented routine and felt that such a life would keep me safe from all sorts of trouble,” Barnett noted. She added that LaBeouf expected her to kiss a certain number of times a day.
The actor could wake her up at night and start accusing her of “anything”: “Accusing me of looking at the ceiling because I was figuring out a way to dump him. Accused me of wanting to be with someone else. It was always somewhere between four and seven in the morning.” Barnett said this treatment caused her to develop post-traumatic stress disorder and that she was haunted by panic attacks at night.
In December 2020, it was reported that FKA twigs had sued LaBeouf. According to the lawsuit, during their affair, which lasted a year, the actor repeatedly abused her, physically and emotionally abused her, and deliberately infected her with an STD. The artist is backed by singer Sia, who admitted that she, too, was a victim of emotional abuse at the hands of the artist.
