The U.S. State Department commented on the unsanctioned protests in Russian cities on January 23. This was reported by the media, citing a statement by State Department spokesman Ned Price.
Earlier, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova criticized the US embassy’s publications in Moscow about the illegal rallies. She said that the diplomatic mission included words about a “march on the Kremlin,” which do not even correspond to the statements of the events’ organizers.
In her commentary, the State Department spokesperson stressed that the U.S. “condemns the use of harsh tactics against protesters and journalists” during the illegal actions and called for the release of all detainees.
As reported, the Russian Foreign Ministry accused the U.S. Embassy of interfering in the internal affairs of the country and encouraging illegal actions. Maria Zakharova announced the summoning of US diplomats to the Foreign Ministry.
