The Syrian Foreign Ministry demanded that the UN Security Council take action against the U.S. after the strikes on Shiite groups on the territory of the Syrian Arab Republic, RIA Novosti reported.
The ministry called on the United Nations Security Council to take responsibility for maintaining peace and security, as well as to take immediate action to prevent the U.S. from continuing its aggressive behavior and “crimes against a sovereign state.
Also, the message of the Syrian Foreign Ministry stated that the American strikes are “an act of blatant aggression,” as well as another attack under a far-fetched pretext.
Earlier, Syria called the American strike on the Shiite groups “cowardly aggression.

The attack targeted positions of the Iranian-backed Shiite groups Kataib Hezbollah and Kataib Sayyid al-Shuhada. The U.S. said the airstrike was in response to the shelling of U.S. troop positions in Iraq.
The conflict in Syria has been ongoing since 2011. President Bashar al-Assad has repeatedly stressed that U.S. troops are there without a legal basis.
