Francesca Heyward will perform the song Beautiful Ghosts in the film itself, a version of Taylor Swift will be presented in the final credits.
Universal Pictures has announced that music industry icon Taylor Swift and legendary composer Andrew Lloyd Webber have co-written a new song for the film Cats, based on the plot of the legendary musical Webber. The song Beautiful Ghosts will appear in both the film and the final credits.
The film is directed by Oscar-winner Tom Hooper (Les Miserables, The King) and stars Taylor Swift, James Corden, Judi Dench, Jason Derulo, Idris Elba, Jennifer Hudson, Ian McKellen, Rebel Wilson, and Royal Ballet prima Francesca Heyward.
In the film, the song is performed by Heyward, who plays the role of Victoria. A version of the song performed by Swift, who plays Bombalurina, will be played in the credits.
As part of the announcement, Universal Pictures showed an exclusive video about the song, as well as interviews with Swift, Lloyd Webber, and Hooper.
One of the longest-running shows in the history of the West End and Broadway, the musical Cats includes many of Lloyd Webber’s unforgettable songs, such as Memory. Lloyd Webber, Swift, and the directors were excited by the idea of introducing a new song for the film adaptation.
The composer felt it necessary to create a new song especially for Victoria, whose role was expanded for the film.
When I first read the script, the first thing I said was, “We should have a song for Victoria,” and the song exceeded director Tom Hooper’s wildest expectations.
“Cats” will start in Russian cinemas on January 2, 2020.
Lloyd Webber says. Beautiful Ghosts is now an “incredibly important part of the whole movie.”
