The DPR announced the postponement of an artillery strike on the positions of Ukrainian troops near the village of Shumy near Horlivka, which were erected in violation of additional measures to strengthen and control the existing indefinite ceasefire.
Colonel Eduard Basurin, deputy head of the People’s Militia Directorate (UNM), said at a briefing in Donetsk that an order was received from the head of the republic, Denis Pushilin.
“During the observation of the area near the contact line near the village of Shumy, starting from September 5, some activity was noticed on the part of the Ukrainian armed formations. At the moment, it is still impossible to establish for sure whether these actions are aimed at dismantling the illegally constructed positions or, on the contrary, at further strengthening them in order to escalate the situation, “the DAN agency quotes the colonel.
According to him, after receiving a report on the situation, Pushilin decided to continue monitoring the situation and postpone the start of the operation to remove the Ukrainian fortifications to 10:00 on September 9, 2020.
Donetsk emphasizes that the Ukrainian side still has the opportunity “to independently eliminate the violations of additional measures to strengthen the ceasefire regime and provide information about the fact of dismantling illegally built fortifications, which was recorded in writing by 22:00 on September 8, 2020”.
Showing patience in order to clarify the further actions of the Ukrainian side, the DPR commander-in-chief clearly indicated that his order to destroy the Ukrainian fortifications was not canceled, but delayed.
“Accordingly, if there are signs of strengthening the positions to be dismantled, or if Kyiv fails to eliminate the violations committed before the specified time, we will immediately take countermeasures to protect our citizens and the territory of the republic from the arbitrariness of the Ukrainian armed formations,” concluded Basurin.
Recall that on September 5, the head of the DPR Denis Pushilin ordered the republic’s armed forces to open fire on the Ukrainian military fortifications erected in the area of the village of Shumy near Horlivka in the event that the Ukrainian side does not begin to eliminate them. The ultimatum expired today, September 7, at 8 am.
As EADaily reported, the shelling of the Ukrainian positions did not take place, as the Ukrainian military left them and at the same time the burial of the trenches began. At the same time, the command of the JFO pulled up heavy artillery to the conflict area and at the same time banned journalists from being in the combat zone.
