The military will get rifles with AI that always hit the target

It is no secret that many advanced technologies are first-hand developed for the military. Thus, every year there is an improvement of small arms. But if there’s usually a way to improve, this time the U.S. Army has decided to take advantage of advances in artificial intelligence to assess the chances of hitting a target. a system called SMASH will be built in. To activate it, there is a special button, pressing which the shooter starts the AI. The smart system analyzes the object at which the barrel is directed. The rifle will reportedly not fire until there is a guarantee of hitting the target. According to the developers of SIG Sauer and Smart Shooter, this solution increases the chances of accurately hitting the enemy both day and night.

“As long as I hold this button, I get targets through image processing. As soon as I let her go, she’ll block the target and give me directions. Then I just pull the trigger and level the crosshairs in accordance with the system’s recommendations,” says one of the military. What’s interesting is if SMASH thinks the chances of hitting the enemy are minimal, the shot will be blocked. Tests of weapons equipped with such systems are already underway. If they show their effectiveness, in 2023, the infantry brigades will be retooled with smart “stems.”
