The Prime Minister of the German federal state of Saxony, Michael Kretschmer, announced the need to complete the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline.
Earlier, Kretschmer’s ally in the Christian Democratic Union (CDU) party, CDU candidate Friedrich Merz, called for a halt to the construction of the gas pipeline. Kretschmer called it a “mistake.”

According to Kretschmer, the incident with Russian blogger Alexei Navalny was “horrific”, but first it should be investigated and then conclusions are drawn.
Earlier, German Chancellor Angela Merkel said that the issues of “North Stream 2” and the cases of the Navalny should be considered separately. Nevertheless, there have been calls from a number of politicians in Germany to suspend or complete the Nord Stream 2 project. At the same time, however, there are more balanced positions.
Russian Presidential Spokesman Dmitry Peskov also noted that the Nord Stream 2 project is commercial, it is implemented in the interests of energy security of the entire European continent, calls of some German parliamentarians to stop it because of the situation with Navalny are emotional statements that are not based on any facts.
Navalny was hospitalized in Omsk on August 20 after he became ill on the plane. According to the results of the examinations, Omsk doctors named the main diagnosis of metabolic disorders, which caused a sharp change in blood sugar. What caused it is not yet clear, but poisons in the blood and urine Navalny, according to Omsk medics, was not found.
The blogger was later flown to Germany. On Wednesday, the German government said, citing military medics, that Navalny allegedly poisoned with a substance from a group of poisonous warfare agents. The Kremlin said in this regard that Berlin had not informed Moscow about its conclusions, and the Russian Foreign Ministry stressed that Russia is waiting for a response from Germany to the official request on this situation.
On the day of the hospitalization, the prosecutor’s office and the police began to carry out their checks Navalny. The Russian Embassy in Berlin said that they expect the German side to respond as quickly as possible to the request of the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation on August 27 to provide legal assistance in the case of the Navalny. Russia is interested and wants to clarify the situation, it needs information from Germany, which is not yet available, said Dmitry Peskov, a spokesman for the Russian president. Investigative actions on the situation with the Navalny de facto go, if the presence of a poisonous substance is confirmed, the investigation will be open and de jure, Peskov said on Friday, answering questions from journalists.
