In the situation with the scandalous comment of the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova on the visit of Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic to the United States, an end was put so that there would be no doubt about the relations between the two countries. Serbian Foreign Minister, First Deputy Prime Minister Ivica Dacic announced this today, September 7.
His statement is quoted by the press service of the diplomatic service:
“Foreign Minister Ivica Dacic said that the Serbian Foreign Ministry and the head of Russian diplomacy, Sergei Lavrov, made efforts to close the case of the publication of the Foreign Ministry spokesman Maria Zakharova so that there would be no doubt about relations between Serbia and Russia. Dacic said in the Happy TV morning program that the two countries are strategic partners and continue this cooperation, and this will not leave a trace on our good relations. ”
The Serbian Foreign Minister also pointed out that at the talks in Washington, the Serbian delegation did not allow the document signed by the parties to affect Belgrade’s relations with Russia and China.
Dacic also said that the Serbian Foreign Ministry “called the Russian ambassador to verbally ask him for an explanation” about Zakharova’s Facebook post. He explained that before meeting with the diplomat, Sergei Lavrov called him, who noted that such a record does not reflect the position of the Russian administration, and the Russian Federation and Serbia are brothers, friends, and strategic partners.
Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic visited the White House, where the Serbian delegation held talks with representatives of the self-proclaimed Kosovo with the mediation of US President Donald Trump. After the meeting, a photograph was released of Vucic sitting in a chair across from Trump. Zakharova on Facebook commented on this picture, attaching to her post a screenshot from the movie “Basic Instinct” with the famous “foot to foot” scene.
The post of Zakharova was condemned by the Minister of Defense of Serbia Aleksandr Vulin and the Director of the Chancellery for Kosovo and Metohija Marko Djuric. Vucic, in a conversation with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, expressed regret in connection with such a publication.
