The United States is “absolutely ready” not to extend the Strategic Offensive Arms Reduction Treaty (START). It is reported by The Washington Post with reference to senior US officials.
“We are absolutely ready to leave. But I would soften it by saying that in fact all options are being considered, ”one of them said.
In turn, the special envoy of the American president for arms control Marshall Billingsley said that there is an opportunity to extend the START, but this is “the wrong framework for the future.”
Earlier it was reported that the United States called on the PRC to reconsider the decision not to participate in tripartite negotiations with Russia on strategic stability. On June 9, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Hua Chunying said the PRC did not intend to participate in trilateral talks with the US and Russia on nuclear weapons.
