The US wants to make slavery abolition a national holiday

Members of the US Senate propose to recognize the day of the abolition of slavery, which is celebrated on June 19, a national holiday. It is reported by NBC News.

Initiatives to recognize this day as a national holiday were made by Democratic Senators Kamala Harris, Corey Booker, Tina Smith, and Ed Marky, as well as Republican John Cornin.

Earlier in the United States, mass protests began against racism and police arbitrariness after the death of African American George Floyd during detention.
