The leader of the Belarusian opposition said that the people of Belarus have an internal need for democracy
Svetlana Tikhanovskaya, leader of the democratic movement in Belarus, living in exile, called on her compatriots to revive the mass protests that gripped the country last fall.
“I know that the Belarusian people are not giving up. People have an inner need for democracy because they want to build a new country. They demand new elections, ”she said in a telephone interview to the American radio station NPR from Lithuania.
According to her, we are talking about the beginning of the second wave of protests.
In August, Belarusian leader Alexander Lukashenko declared himself the winner of the presidential elections in which Tikhanovskaya took part and forced her to leave the country.
US and EU refused to recognize Lukashenko as the legitimate leader of Belarus and imposed sanctions against his entourage
