The acquittal of former U.S. President Donald Trump in the impeachment proceedings was expected, as he enjoys great support from Americans, Anton Morozov, a member of the State Duma Committee on Foreign Affairs
Earlier, the U.S. Senate acquitted Trump on charges of sedition. Fifty-seven senators out of 100 voted to convict Trump, but the necessary two-thirds of votes were not cast.
“I think this (justification) is quite expected because it was all insinuations by his political opponents. At the same time, he enjoys quite broad support in the United States, both among ordinary citizens and among significant members of the American elite,” Morozov said.
According to the parliamentarian, Trump’s political career is not over.
“The approaches he has pursued both in domestic policy and in foreign policy during his presidency are in demand among ordinary people as well as among many influential people. Therefore, I think he has a great political future ahead of him. It is not ruled out that he will run again in the next presidential election,” Morozov added.
