The contents of Trump’s note are unknown
Outgoing U.S. President Donald Trump did not break a thirty-year tradition and left his successor, Democrat Joe Biden, a note in the Oval Office, the White House said Wednesday.
The contents of the note are unknown.
Given that Trump left Washington before his term officially ended at noon Wednesday, refusing to attend Biden’s inauguration, it was unclear whether he would uphold the tradition begun in 1989 by President Ronald Reagan.
Trump refused to concede defeat in the Nov. 3 election and never spoke to Biden after the vote. Even in his farewell address at an airbase near Washington, D.C., he did not mention the president-elect by name.
Previous presidents have left their notes on the table in the Oval Office of the White House for the new head of state to find good wishes immediately upon taking office.
