Former U.S. President Donald Trump is leaving the Screen Actors Guild (SAG-AFTRA) of his own free will, according to the Fox News TV channel.
The network obtained Trump’s letter sent to Actress Gabrielle Carteris, president of the guild.
“I’m writing to you today about the hearing of the so-called disciplinary committee aimed at stripping me of my membership in the union. Who cares!” – Trump wrote.
Trump also said he was “not familiar with the works” of Carteris, but was very proud of his work in such films as “Home Alone 2,” “The Model Male,” “Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps” and TV shows. According to the former president, the organization has done little for its members and nothing for him, and has only engaged in “collecting dues and promoting dangerous anti-American policies and ideas.”
“I no longer wish to be associated with your union. Thus, this letter informs you of my immediate departure from SAG-AFTRA,” Trump concluded.
Earlier, the Screen Actors Guild of America ordered a disciplinary hearing into Trump’s possible violation of the association’s constitution, a move the Guild board overwhelmingly approved. The board acted on allegations including the president’s role in the storming of the U.S. Capitol and his support of a disinformation campaign “that seeks to discredit and ultimately endanger the safety of journalists.”
Trump has been a member of the Screen Actors Guild since 1989.
