U.S. President Donald Trump is proposing not only Ukraine but also China to investigate former U.S. Vice President Joe Biden and members of his family. The head of state told journalists about it, TOP-NEWS reports.
According to him, Beijing should start studying the situation because “what happened in China is about as bad as what happened to Ukraine.” At the same time, the American leader indicated that he had not made such a request to Chinese President Xi Jinping. “But we can certainly start thinking about it,” Trump added.
Reuters notes that Trump’s statement looks unusual amid the ongoing U.S.-China trade war. After the president’s remarks, a Biden campaign spokesman said the US leader was “desperately clinging to the conspiracy theories that were refuted by credible news organizations.”
Earlier, the American leader called the impeachment procedure initiated by Democrats in Congress a coup.
On October 1, Senate Republican Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said the u.S. senate’s upper house would have to raise the issue of Trump’s removal from office if he voted in the House of Representatives.
Trump’s impeachment proceedings began in the House of Representatives on September 25. The reason was his phone conversation with the Ukrainian leader Vladimir Zelensky: members of the Democratic Party want to prove that the head of the United States pressured his Ukrainian counterpart to stimulate the investigation of the corruption case against Joe Biden’s son. Biden himself is considered Trump’s most promising opponent in the 2020 election.
