Defenders of the American leader believe that there are no procedural or constitutional grounds in impeachment.
Us President Donald Trump’s legal team has sent a response to the U.S. Senate on charges of abuse of power and obstruction of Congress, the Associated Press reported.
According to Trump’s defenders, the impeachment procedure is an “attack on the right of the American people to freely choose their president.”
“This is a brazen and illegal attempt to cancel the results of the 2016 elections and interfere in the 2020 elections, which are only a few months away,” the statement reads.
Lawyers believe that there are no procedural or constitutional grounds in impeachment.
It is noted that Trump will present a more detailed legal justification on Monday, January 20, and the House of Representatives will be able to respond to him on Tuesday when the proceedings in the Senate will continue.
Recall, January 16 in the U.S. Senate officially began the trial on charges against Trump, which was handed over by the House of Representatives.
The reason for the proceedings was the information that the American leader put pressure on the President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky, demanding to start an investigation against Joe Biden’s son in exchange for unfreezing military aid.
