Ankara announced that it was sending technical information about the S-400 missile defense system, which was purchased from Russia to the United States.
Turkey has officially announced its intention to provide Washington with all technologies related to the Russian Triumphs. Thus, Ankara is trying to stay in the program of obtaining a fifth-generation F-35 fighter, despite the fact that the U.S. has decided to transfer prepaid and intended for the Turkish Air Force American “stealth” of its army. The Turkish authorities are concerned about this information and already state bluntly that they are ready to eliminate all Washington’s concerns from a technical point of view.
“Turkey is not a client in the F-35 production program, but a partner. We are prepared to address the technical concerns of the United States about the incompatibility of the S-400 and F-35. Turkey continued to produce key components for the F-35, despite the pandemic and its exclusion from the countries participating in the project,” said Turkish Minister of National Defense Hulusi Akar.
In light of the information about Ankara’s readiness to acquire from Russia a new batch of S-400 Triumph missile defense systems, such statements look strange and indicate Ankara’s inconsistency. Probably weighing all the circumstances, Recep Tayyip Erdogan decided to abandon this arms deal in favor of the already financed. How it will be calculated with Moscow in case of breach of contract is not yet known, as well as the Kremlin’s reaction to this message.
