Two people were killed in Iraq with a car with journalists

It is not yet known who opened fire on the car. The shooting killed a reporter and cameraman of the Tv channel Silja.
Correspondent Ahmed Abdul Samad and cameraman Safaa Ghali, who worked for Dilja TV channel, were shot dead in Iraq. This is reported by DailyMail on Monday, January 13.

Unidentified gunmen opened fire on the journalists’ car. A video from the scene of the murder was released on Dilja TV’s website. The footage shows Samad being shot in the head and bullet marks on the car door. The operator suffered three bullet wounds to the chest.

The U.S. Embassy in Baghdad called the killing of journalists “pathetic and cowardly”, posting a message on Twitter.

“The long killings, kidnappings, harassment, and intimidation by armed groups of members of the press, social media activists and reform advocates in Iraq cannot go unpunished,” the statement said.

In 2019, more than 70 media employees worldwide were killed. This year’s figure is lower than in 2018 when 113 people died, the Press Emblem Campaign reported.
