The decision was made after the announcement of the arrest of an Italian naval officer convicted of handing over documents to a Russian official
British Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab said Wednesday that his country is in solidarity with Italy’s decision to expel two Russian diplomats in connection with their alleged espionage activities.
“The United Kingdom expresses solidarity with Italy and the action it has taken today against the malicious and destabilizing activities of Russia to weaken our NATO ally,” the UK foreign minister tweeted.
We will remind you that earlier on Wednesday, Italy expelled two Russian diplomats after the police reported the arrest of the captain of the Italian navy, convicted of transferring documents to a Russian official in exchange for a monetary reward. Reportedly, the transfer of documents took place during a secret meeting.
