U.S. accuses Russia of supporting airstrikes on civilian targets in Syria

The regime of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, backed by Russia, has carried out airstrikes on civilian targets, which have resulted in the loss of life. This was stated by US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo in his Twitter account.

Pompeo said the attacks took place over the past 48 hours, destroying schools, hospitals, and homes. As a result, 12 people were killed and about 40 were injured, he added.

“Russia and the Assad regime must solve this problem through a UN-backed process and stop waging war on civilian areas,” the secretary of state concluded.

Earlier, the Turkish news agency Anadolu reported that the U.S. military moved construction equipment, soldiers and heavy weapons to Deir Ezzor province to build new military bases there. Russia said it would create risks of accidental attacks on Syrian and Russian patrols in the region.
