In the evening, at least 150 activists gathered in front of the City Hall, many of them wearing bulletproof vests, gas masks, helmets, and shields.

Several people smashed windows and broke into the Portland City Hall during street protests, and a fire broke out outside the building. This was reported by the news agency on Wednesday, August 26, citing a report of local police on the social network. According to her, at least 150 activists gathered in front of the City Hall in the evening. Many of them had bulletproof vests, gas masks, helmets, and shields.

Protesters committed a number of acts of vandalism on the way to the City Hall and near the building itself. They threw bottles at police officers and used laser pointers to blind them.

“Police then decided to declare the incident a riot and make a number of arrests,” Portland police said in a statement. A total of 23 people were detained.

In Portland, federal security forces reportedly fired tear gas at protesters, including Mayor Ted Wheeler, who joined the activists.
