The U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) required Tesla Inc to recall 158,000 Model S and Model X cars due to failures of the Multimedia Control Unit (MCU), which can pose a safety hazard due to faulty touch-screen displays. It is reported by Reuters.
A request to Tesla was sent by NHTSA. The letter says that after reviewing some data, the agency concluded that the 2012-2018 Model S and 2016-2018 Model X vehicles “contain a defect related to vehicle safety.”
Tesla, according to the agency, has until Jan. 27 to respond to NHTSA. If the company disagrees with the authorities’ decision, it will have to provide the agency with a “full explanation of its decision.”
