U.S. imposed sanctions against Russian research institutes

The United States imposed sanctions on the Russian Central Research Institute of Chemistry and Mechanics. This is reported on the U.S. Treasury Department website.

It is specified that the restrictions are imposed in accordance with the law “On Countering Enemies of America through Sanctions” (CAATSA). The U.S. authorities believe that the research institute is associated with the “dangerous malicious [computer] program Triton”, which was created supposedly to “damage and manipulate industrial security systems.

Blacklisting means freezing assets in the United States and prohibiting U.S. citizens or companies from doing business with its associates.

On Oct. 20, the United States announced an expansion of sanctions against the Nord Stream-2 pipeline. The restrictions apply to companies that help upgrade or install equipment on pipe-laying ships, as well as finance such work.
