U.S. police officer rammed into a crowd of street racers

A police officer in the United States rammed an SUV into a crowd of street racers, who surrounded the patrol car and did not allow to pass, one of them the officer ran over while trying to escape to safety, reported Fox News, citing the police.
The incident, which was captured on eyewitness video, occurred Saturday night in Tacoma, Wash. Police received reports of a street race that caused a downtown intersection to be blocked by about a hundred spectators. When a police car arrived on the scene with its siren blaring, it was surrounded by a crowd, some of whom began punching the back of the car.

Law enforcement officials said the policeman, “fearing for his safety, attempted to back up, but was unable to do so because of the crowd.” The driver eventually drove forward and, according to a video on social media, rammed the standing people, knocking some of them into the roadway. The heavy car ran its wheels over one of the fallen people.
Later, the policeman stopped in a safe place and called doctors. The victim was hospitalized, but the doctors’ assessment of his condition is still unknown. An investigation into the incident has been launched. The police officer will be suspended from duty during the investigation.
