The head of the Absolute Fighting Championship (UFC) Daina White has closed the question of a possible confrontation between Canadian Georges St-Pierre and Khabib Nurmagomedov. MMA Junkie reports his words.
White stated that there would not be a fight between the promotion stars. “Khabib is not interested in this fight. As far as I know and Georges doesn’t want it anymore. So this whole story is over,” the UFC head said. On January 16, White revealed Nurmagomedov’s position on a return to mixed martial arts (MMA). White said the Russian is ready to return to the octagon if he is impressed with his fighters’ performances at UFC 257. Nurmagomedov will be watching Conor McGregor and Dustin Porter as well as Charles Oliveira and Dan Hooker.
Nurmagomedov left MMA in the fall. He announced his decision right after his win over Justin Gagey and another defense of the UFC lightweight title.
Nurmagomedov has 29 wins in 29 fights under his belt. He has defended the UFC lightweight title three times and leads the organization’s ranking of the best fighters outside of weight classes.
Saint-Pierre left MMA in February 2019. Nurmagomedov expressed his desire to fight the former champion. According to the Canadian himself, it was the UFC management that wasn’t interested in the fight for a long time.
