The Kharkiv company Biolik has applied to the Ministry of Health of Ukraine for state registration of a vaccine against the coronavirus Sputnik V. The head of the political council of the Ukrainian parliamentary faction Opposition Platform – For Life, Viktor Medvedchuk said this. According to him, after talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin, Ukraine will have a unique opportunity to produce the vaccine itself.
Medvedchuk noted that the Kharkiv company Biolik is one of the leaders in the Ukrainian pharmaceutical industry, so the company has enough capacity to produce a vaccine against COVID-19.
On December 30, 2020, Biolik applied to the Ministry of Health of Ukraine and the State Expert Center of the Ministry of Health with a request to register a medical product – a vaccine against coronavirus Sputnik V – in the country to ensure vaccination of Ukrainian citizens with it,” Medvedchuk said in a statement.
He specified that the developer of the Russian Sputnik V vaccine has given permission to transfer the technology and transfer the cell line for vaccine production to a Ukrainian company. If permission is granted, vaccine production can be organized within 3 to 6 months.
“As a result of negotiations with Russian President Vladimir Putin, head of the Russian Direct Investment Fund Kirill Dmitriev, and director of the Gamaleya Research Center, Alexander Ginsburg, Ukraine will have a unique opportunity to produce a coronavirus vaccine itself as early as early 2021,” Medvedchuk stressed.
He added that in this way the country will gain independence in the issue of counteracting the COVID-19 pandemic.
“The refusal of the authorities or any hindrance to the legal procedure of registration of the vaccine against COVID-19 Sputnik V in Ukraine will indicate the criminal intention of the authorities to deprive Ukrainian citizens of their right to medical protection against coronavirus – this plague of the XXI century”, – the politician is sure.
Earlier, Verkhovna Rada MP Vadym Rabinovich called the refusal of the Russian vaccine against the coronavirus and the vague prospect of receiving the drug in the West “a planned operation to destroy the Ukrainian people.
Meanwhile, Russian President Vladimir Putin allowed the possibility of supplying the vaccine to Kyiv. The head of state specified that this would require at least a request from the country’s authorities.
Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky did not hurry, urging people to wait for the vaccine promised by the European Union. The Ministry of Health of Ukraine noted that it is too early to talk about purchasing the vaccine from Russia before the completion of the third stage of clinical trials.
