UN Secretary-General António Guterres called on the G20 countries to lift all sanctions against other states against coronavirus. This is stated in the letter to the G20 leaders, reports Reuters.
“[This is needed] to ensure access to food, medical supplies and to support them in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic. It is time for solidarity, not isolation, ”he said. Guterres also called on countries to invest more in the fight against the pandemic.
Earlier it became known that the G20 will hold an emergency summit on the situation with coronavirus. It will go online via video conference on March 26th. It is estimated that the meeting could be complicated by the crisis amid the collapse of the OPEC + deal and the growing tension between the US and China regarding the origin of the coronavirus.
According to recent data, a total of 398 thousand cases of coronavirus infection have been recorded in the world. 17.4 thousand people died, another 103.3 thousand were cured.
