The Pentagon intends to focus on the development of more advanced technologies in the field of non-nuclear weapons.
The United States does not plan to create hypersonic weapons equipped with nuclear warheads. This was stated by Deputy Director of Hypersonic Development in the Department of Research and Development of the Pentagon, Michael White on Thursday, June 18.
“Our opponents are creating systems that are designed in such a way that they can be both nuclear and non-nuclear,” White said in a video seminar organized by Defense One.
“We are considering creating only non-nuclear systems, we are considering this as a tactical weapon, and we are trying to achieve more advanced technologies in the field of non-nuclear weapons,” White added.
Trump said earlier that the US is creating the fastest rocket in the world. A hypersonic missile will be able to hit targets at a distance of 1.6 thousand km at a speed of 17 times more than all existing ones.
