US President Donald Trump said the United States will begin to strip Hong Kong of privileged status. The president said this at a press conference broadcast by the White House on Twitter.
“We will begin to consider the rejection of a number of privileges,” Trump said.
The president explained that “China has replaced its promise to follow the principle of” one country – two systems “with the principle of” one country – one system. ” This robs Hong Kong of autonomy.
On May 24, Assistant to the President of the United States for National Security Robert O’Brien announced the US intention to impose sanctions against China if Hong Kong’s autonomy is violated.
